WELCOME
TO
TRIPLE HELIX VII
The
University of Strathclyde will play host to the seventh biennial
Triple Helix Conference from 17-19 June. The theme of the
Conference, “The role of Triple Helix in the Global Agenda of
Innovation, Competitiveness and Sustainability”, reflects the
interaction between academia and the private and public
sectors. The conference has attracted some 300 delegates from
over forty countries.
A key element of the Conference this year is a
Plenary Ministerial Session to be held on Wednesday 17 June, to
be chaired by Ms Fiona Hyslop, Cabinet Secretary for Education
and Lifelong Learning, Scottish Government.
The high powered Ministerial Panel will include
presentations by a galaxy of international luminaries including
Dr Manuel Heitor, Secretary of State for Science, Technology and
Higher Education Government of Portugal, His Excellency Dr K
Kadiman, Minister for Science, Technology, Government of
Indonesia, Mrs Renee Bergkamp, Secretary general, Ministry of
Economic affairs, Government of the Netherlands, and Dr Augusto
Gadelha, Secretary for Information Technology Policies,
Government of Brazil.
The European Consortium of Innovative
Universities (ECIU), of which Strathclyde is a founding member,
will host one of the plenary sessions, with Principals, Vice
Chancellors and Rectors from EU universities describing their
perspectives on developing Triple Helix related activities.
The three-day event will also feature
distinguished keynote speakers from Harvard University, the
University of Newcastle and Amsterdam University, among others,
including industry leaders who will participate in a key plenary
session on 19 June.
The Triple Helix is widely recognized for its
significance as a dynamic institutional basis for wealth
creation and sustainable development through the generation of
knowledge and its effective application. The biennial Triple
Helix conferences started twelve years ago to analyse the
interaction between University, Government and Industry, and its
influence on the economic development of specific regions.
Triple Helix VII offers a multi-disciplinary
forum for experts from universities, industry and government.
The Conference is designed to attract leading authorities from
across the world who will share their knowledge and experience,
drawing a link between research, policy, and practice in
sustainable development. The Conference will bring together
policy-makers, academics, researchers, postgraduate students,
and key representatives from business and industry.
